Shea Stadium
Shea Stadium is truly one of the most unique stadiums in baseball.
Since it's opening in 1964 it has been host to the Beatles,
pro and college football, the Ice Capades and even an appearance
by Pope John Paul ll! Among the it's many events, football games
and concerts, the stadium's main draw is the New York Mets.

Shea Stadium Firsts
The first regular season game was held April 17th 1964. The
New York Mets hosted the Pittsburgh Pirates. Over 50,000 baseball
fans poured into the stadium to witness the home opener. The
first hit of the game came in the second inning when, the Pirates
Willie Stargell hit a home run off pitcher Jack Fisher. The
Pirates struck first and ended up winning the game 4-3.
Records at Shea Stadium
Shea has witnessed several MLB records. In 1984 Dwight Gooden
established a MLB rookie record with 276 strikeouts in one season.
In that same year he became the first teenage rookie to lead
the Majors in strikeouts.
In 2001 Lenny Harris became the new all time leader in pinch
hits with his 151st pinch hit.
